Silchester House is a fantastic venue, but unfortunately the service is unbelievably bad. We found Bijou to be very inflexible and arrogant throughout the whole preparation. There was very little room for negotiation on any matter. A few examples: they served the wrong main course, the wine that we had taken a long time choosing - they had 7 bottles on the day! They obtrusively cleaned up around us the morning after, which was incredibly disappointing. The pool was to be open for guests, but wasn't. We had to compromise on the table layout due to inflexibility, and even then when we arrived it was not as agreeed (and the response was that they supposed they could change it if we really wanted!). The buffet lunch before the service was removed so quickly that some guests didn't get a chance to eat. The bar was to re-open to residents when non-residents left - it didn't. The bar staff were untrained and extremely slow (one asked what a shandy was). All residents had to choose the same breakfast and eat at the same time - no flexibility. There are so many fantastic country houses out there offering exclusive access that we would strongly recommend that you stear clear of Bijou, as we found them to be unprofessional and arrogant, and unfortunately they detracted significantly from our day. |
perfecting the art of catering Reviewed by: anna hoad | 2:11pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 |
We were guests at Colin & Nicola Fowle's wedding breakfast on 27th September. I would like to congratulate you and your team on perfecting the art of catering for such large numbers. The food was wonderful and everything seemed to run like clockwork. It was obvious that time has been taken to train your young waiting staff. Although we do not live in your area, we shall be singing your praises to our friends and wish you continued success for the future.

Many thanks for organising everything so well on Friday, despite the unforseen difficulty of the weather. Our thanks also to the chef. Having to cook for a large number of people and with the time schedule running so late, cannot have been easy.
We will not hesitate to recommend the venue to friends. You coped admirably well in very difficult circumstances.

An incredibly huge thank you!
Grant and I cannot express in words how major a part Silchester House played, in making our day the most special event of our adult life. It was totally faultless - absolutely professional - and nothing left to chance. A perfect day. It simply demonstrates the enormous benefit of holding a wedding at a venue which is dediciated solely to one wedding, and both Grant and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and venue.

Ben and i have just returned from our honeymoon and i wanted to write to thank you for all you did to make our day so perfect. It was the most
amazing day and everything went so smoothly which is all due to the work you and the other staff at Silchester put into the day. Please pass on our
thanks to all who were there on the day helping out. We're only just beginning to speak to people, having been away since the wedding but everyone said what an amazing place it was and what a great atmosphere there was - a perfect wedding!
Wishing you all the best for the future. |
