We recently had a wedding at The Stable, Tewin Bury Farm. While the location was very pretty we were extremely let down by some of the staff there. We had specific requirements due to the time of year and we were sold on the fact that there were patio heaters outside which people could sit under due to the venue feeling a lot smaller with the 100 capacity that we were told it could accommodate.
We were also asked at our first planning meeting if we required a microphone. This was really important to us a member of the family had been unwell previously and needed help to project their voice. We were again told that it wouldn't be a problem.
Over the months leading up to the day we checked on numerous occasions if the heaters were working and were told that everything was fine. We even asked in the morning of the wedding and were still told that they were ok.
That evening the mircophone did not work at all and was apparent that it hadn't worked for sometime after a qualified sound engineer from our party looked in the cupboard and saw a broken plug, a broken aerial and lack of adequate wiring. If we had not been lied to and someone had admitted that the electrician hadn't wired it and also told our wedding coordinator on the day it would have saved us a lot of time. Instead we lost half and hour trying to replace batteries in the poor quality microphone and the evening guests were arriving during the speeches which were something we wanted to avoid.
Also the patio heaters didn't work, after asking a manager on duty he wasn't even aware that we had asked for them to be functional and didn't seem to be bothered. It was clear that it would have been very cramped inside if everyone came in so some guests went to get blankets out of their cars to help keep them warm.
After trying to resolve this we had a ridiculous e-mail from the Deputy Managing director saying that the patio heater power supply had been changed to supply the new ovens in the kitchen. Also that the electrician hadn't wired in the microphone as a member of staff has apparently heard one of our wedding party talking about the DJ mic and assumed we were using that! We never intended on using our own one as it would have meant setting up all the DJ equipment which was not possible when all the dining tables are out, obviously they missed that bit! This was irrelevant and these simple requests should have been taken care of. All I have is a load of lame excuses i.e. working different shifts, as they do actually have e-mails there a simple e-mail to the people in question could have solved the problems.
Since then I have tried to resolve this matter and had an extremely rude Deputy Managing Director refuse to see in person or talk to me and actually hung up as she knew she was in the wrong and was contradicting herself. I am totally disugusted by the whole experience. She kept saying to me that everything works in the venue and we saw that it didn't with our own eyes!!!
We had to pay all the money up front and even an extra deposit just in case there were any breakages etc. We should have been able to keep some of OUR money back just in case they didn’t deliver what was promised. It all seems very one sided.
I imagine that they probably try to reply will get a load of lies and more excuses back but I wouldn't listen. Just be cautious when deciding where to go on one of the most expensive and important days of your life
