Once upon a time there was a wedding. Bob asked Wendy if she'd marry him and after she had stopped crying, she said yes. It was going to be a small intimate affair with just close friends and family. Probably to be held just around the corner, nothing fancy, nothing expensive. But somehow things didn't quite turn out that way...

After driving around most of southern England, half the west country and a smattering of the midlands, it became clear that no-one should have to go through the same experience as we did, in trying to find our perfect wedding venue.

So after the confetti had settled and things had gone back to normal, Bob and his best man Andy, decided to create a website to help other couples looking for a place to get married. Meanwhile Wendy designed a range of contemporary stationery for fabulous weddings, which you can see at Scissor Paper Stone.

Together they built a database of thousands of registered civil wedding and reception venues in Britain. Several hundred of these are now full listings, with pictures, text and maps. We add more venues every month and if you know of any venues we've missed, please drop us a line and we'll include them on the site.

Oh, and just so you know:
Bob and Wendy were married on June 9th, 2001. It wasn't that small an affair, it was quite fancy in the end, and no, we aren't telling you how much it cost.
