The Chateau
A very romantic, warm and friendly building dating from the mid 18th century (and built by a local Count for his mistress) the Chateau du Bijou is perhaps more of a large country house than a Chateau. It is set in approximately 63 acres on the edge of the Rhone Valley, half-way between Lyons and Marseilles. It is easily accessible from Paris or London by either plane or train (the latter taking approx 2 hours from Paris and 5 hours from London). The chateau commands astounding views to the East across the Rhone Valley to the pre-Alps.
On site there are two swimming pools and 2 cottages (4 and 5 bed) and one two bedroom apartment as well as the Chateau itself which has a total of 12 bedrooms virtually all of which have ensuite bathrooms. On the ground floor the Chateau has a large entertaining room capable of seating 90, a grand hall (ideal for dancing), a sitting room and a breakfast room as well as two studies. A large terrace fronts the chateau to the South making an ideal location for al-fresco dining.
It isn’t possible to conduct a civil wedding ceremony in France but we can offer a blessing and a wedding reception or party. In fact, the Chateau and its cottages make a perfect place to have a family reunion of any form. The atmosphere is extremely tranquil and the area very quiet, but it is remarkably easy to access being only 15 minutes from the main arterial motorway. We can arrange catering and other services locally and its position between the Northern and Southern Rhone wine districts enables you to get your own wine direct from the vineyard.
Smaller groups can, if available, rent the chateau and/or the cottages independently.
