Venues:
History with a twist
England, Wales and Scotland all boast rich and vivid histories. This history has left great legacies in the form of wonderful buildings, many of which are licensed to host civil weddings.
WeddingVenues.com includes many such buildings but this section tries to pick some of the more unusual wedding venues. Some are linked to a historical figure, others you might call history with a twist. In any event, your civil marriage will be almost singular event at any of these venues.

Notley Abbey
Originally a Monastery (founded 1162), Henry VIIIth stayed in this historic house some three years before he dissolved the monasteries in 1532. The Abbot's residence then became a private residence and, in 1944, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh made it their home. For the following 15 years it was the scene of many a party. Now it can be your home for your wedding day as last year it was acquired and refurbished by Yours-exclusively UK as the 3rd of its exclusive wedding venues. The house and beautiful grounds, 7 luxurious bedrooms and the grand Monks' Refectory mark this out as a truly exceptional venue.
