Bradbourne House is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a wedding open day on Sunday 30th …
This lovely 16th-century castle set beside the shimmering sea has superb views across Portland Harbour. With a choice of ceremony rooms inside this unusual fan-shaped castle, a marquee site for a stylish wedding reception and the castle’s lovely contemporary garden, Portland Castle is the perfect venue for a unique and unforgettable wedding.
Portland Castle was one of nine coastal forts built hastily by King Henry VIII between 1539 and 1540 and cost nearly £5,000; it once housed three tiers of formidable firepower, with cannons trained on the sea.
Today the Upper Gun Deck affords wonderful views across the harbour as yachts pass on the horizon. Inside, the warm Portland stone walls provide snug surroundings for winter weddings and a cool setting for sunny summer celebrations.
The Great Hall is the perfect location for an intimate wedding ceremony. Holding up to 50 guests, this room provides a wonderful understated backdrop with its wooden flooring and simple stone walls; it can be simply decorated with candles and flowers.
With its high windows, the Tudor Kitchen is a light and airy room which is a stunning location for wedding ceremonies. In winter, a roaring log fire can be lit in the stunning medieval fireplace.
After your ceremony, cross the bridge over the dried moat and into the green oasis that is the Governor’s Garden for a spectacular backdrop to capture this special day and toast to your future.
For larger ceremonies and receptions, a stylish marquee can be set up in a superb sheltered location adjoining the castle. You and your guests dine and dance as the sun sets romantically over the sea to close your perfect day.
