We at Lower Damgate Farm are relaxed with a philosophy that “nothing is a problem”, and we give you a blank canvas in which to pursue your own dream wedding with complete exclusivity in a stunning setting within the Peak District National Park.
We have 20 acres of grounds and a beautiful wedding barn that can easily seat 70 to over 140 guests for dining, buffet’s or barn dances etc. Accommodation is included on site in our Visit Britain four star cottages sleeping up to 28 guests (plus cots). Our Wedding Barn is very different, and you can see photographs of our weddings on our Facebook page Lowerdamgatefarm. Views from the property are wonderful and make a perfect if unusual setting for photography. The farm is also an animal sanctuary with goats, Alpacas and a ménage of animals. Guests can intermingle with the animals and we make sure you have photographs of your day with them.
Hire is on an “all inclusive package” (accommodation, venue, barn and equipment). We let you decorate and plan your own DIY wedding, with the flexibility of using your own suppliers and I am always happy to help if you need me.
We only do 12 weddings a year and dates are by choice on a first come basis, We offer you a venue that is a relaxed three night weekend experience rather than just a day, so you get a mini break with accommodation for 28 guests as well. This enables you to enjoy time together as a family without rushing around too much!
We are a DIY venue which means you decorate and organise everything yourselves. You can also chose which suppliers you’d like to use without being forced to have onsite suppliers such as caterers etc. and we also provide a long list of recommended suppliers and information which our guests find very useful. However we never take commission from anyone we recommend and only recommend them if previous guests have been happy, so you can use other suppliers or do it yourself. We work on trust and integrity and hope it is returned.
Planning your own wedding is not an easy option but it is certainly the most rewarding and amazing, However we are here to guide you if you need it, and because we have so few weddings it enables is to get to know our couples well and gives you a whole weekend break to create the most amazing day.
We are a very individual and relaxed venue, with one or two quirky rules! As we are situated in The Peak District National Park these are stipulated in our planning conditions and we could not operate unless they are adhered to:
Noise (music is welcome, but not into Sunday and no outside music unless unplugged!) Amplified Music must finish by 11.30, Drink up and winding down time is until midnight and hopefully you won’t turn into a pumpkin before you leave! We welcome Ceilidh’s Bands and Disco’s and some good bands, but If you are looking for a loud head banging, rock, heavy rave type event or even a full blown Jazz band we are not for you, as we have an electronic noise limiter installed.
We have a dedicated Travel plan which we must adhere to as it is part of our planning conditions as well as complying with the laws of the Highways Agency, therefore our allocation of cars on site is limited to around 25.
We live in a big tourist area, so the rules for traffic and parking must be met otherwise we cannot continue to offer our home for your special day. The best option for parking is to use our local coach company Warrington’s in Ilam who are happy to ferry your guests to and from there accommodation, to your wedding venue, back to the farm and then back to their accommodation at the end of the evening. (This option will not break the bank) By using this system we find that it works really well as it keeps everyone on site and your guests can drink and relax without the worry of driving home.
If you have a large number of guests, you will find additional accommodation plentiful. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the peak district and our country road can accommodate over 100 guests in a number of B&B’s and self-catering properties, In addition Ilam Youth Hostel down the road sleeps 120, maximising numbers and keeping costs low. There are also some lovely hotels around Ilam and Dovedale so choice is plentiful
There is also the use of 20 acres of gardens and grounds, with special use of the hot tub for the wedding couple. You get the scenery, animals, views and me for free!!
If you would like a wedding that is a completely different experience for three days, relaxed, happy, with your own theme and very much your own thing! With maybe a few goats, ponies and alpacas (part of our onsite animal sanctuary) in your photographs with far reaching stunning views and the odd Hay bale or two, then maybe we are for you!
