Historic Building Description: Toynbee Hall, a Grade II listed building, is a unique and historic venue, and an ideal venue for your wedding or civil partnership.
Founded in 1884, Toynbee Hall was at the centre of the social reform movement through the nineteenth and twentieth century. Today, the charity still works tirelessly to help deal with the effects, and eradicate the causes, of poverty but we have created a thriving venue hire business, which helps support the cost of our work.
Toynbee Hall itself consists of two rooms, the Ashbee Hall and the Lecture Hall.
The Lecture Hall is a wood panelled room from where a host of influential figures from the social reform movement, including Gandhi and Lenin, have delivered seminal addresses since Toynbee Hall was founded in 1884.
The adjoining Ashbee Hall is designed and decorated in keeping with with the English Arts and Crafts Movement of which Charles Ashbee, a former residential volunteer at Toynbee Hall, was a leading figure. A portrait of our founders, Samuel and Henrietta Barnett, overlooks the room.
Toynbee Hall is a fully-licenced venue for weddings and civil partnerships or couples are welcome to use or unique venue for a reception-only event. We can provide a full-range of catering options as well as offer as offering a complete event-planning service, via our network of trusted suppliers.
