Description:
Wortley Hall is the workers' stately home. It has over 500 years of history, yet can offer the modern facilities demanded by a discerning clientele. Wortley Hall was the ancestral home of the Earls of Wharncliffe, the Lords of the Manor of Wortley. The earliest recording being Alnus de Wortley, mentioned in the Pipe Rolls for 1165. On 5th May 1951 Wortley Hall was formally opened as an educational and holiday centre. the trade union, Labour and Cooperative movement. Over the last 50 years, successive generations have maintained the commitment and beliefs of those early pioneers. Drawn from a broad base of the labour movement, no one person or organisation can have overall control of Wortley Hall. This is one of its strengths, a truly co-operative venture, run by its members for the movement as a whole. In the words of the current President, Stuart Charnley, 'This is our oasis of socialism, let us ensure its successful continuation.'

There are three licensed rooms:
The Fire Brigades Union Up to 30 guests
The Library Up to 50 guests
The Lounge Up to 80 guests

Directions by car:
Northbound: Leave the M1 at Junction 35A. Go straight ahead at the roundabout.
Southbound: Leave the M1 at Junction 36.
Take the third exit, onto the A61, signposted Sheffield (North)
then:
At the next roundabout, take the A616 signposted Manchester.
After 1.7 Miles, Take exit on your left
signposted A629 Huddersfield, Wortley, Penistone.
Turn Left at T-Junction onto the A629.
Follow A629 striaght into Wortley.
You will come to a church, on a sharp right hand bend.
Follow the road round to the right. The entrance to Wortley Hall is on your right.

Travelling From Sheffield
Use the A61, fork left onto the A629 (Huddersfield) into Wortley Village, turn right on the double bend, keep left, down the drive to the Hall.

Traveling From Manchester
Use the A628 at the Flouch Inn turn night onto the A616, leave by the A629 (Huddersfield) for half a mile into Wortley Village, turn right on the double, bend, keep left, down the drive to the Hall.
