The London Borough of Croydon is an area of contrasts. Some parts of it feel like leafy suburbia, while others have a distinctly urban feel. The bride and groom looking for wedding venues in Croydon may follow a trail through areas like Thornton Heath, Selhurst and Norbury down towards East Croydon and West Croydon that feel more city-like. Meanwhile Coulsdon, New Addington and Farleigh have the feel of Surrey about them, with restaurants and golf clubs among the venues to check out. Addiscombe, Sanderstead and Purley have a more suburban feel.
The contrasting nature of Croydon's neighbourhoods is reflected in the choice of venues. Croydon has some fine historic and public buildings and also a theatre and concert hall. Other places to get married include football clubs and other sporting venues and there are lots of venues with nice green spaces for drinks on the lawn and a marquee.
Many wedding venues in Croydon will specialise in Afro-Caribbean weddings and others are large banqueting halls that are perfect for Indian ceremonies and receptions. Wedding planners will be able to talk you through the catering options and drinks packages and advise on decor and seating plans and anything and everything else.
Hotels are often a good bet for the civil ceremony and the wedding party, and the borough's range from the grand to the cosy. Many can deliver your big day with an interesting package for a competitive price. If you are able to get hitched during the winter months or on a weekday, you'll have a good chance to negotiate a great deal. You may still find great deals for a weekend wedding in August of course.
Finally, if anyone is thinking of a Star Wars themed wedding, Dave Prowse ñ Darth Vader himself ñ lived in Addiscombe for decades! May the force be with you.
