Having planned a large number of weddings in the UK and destination weddings across Europe, Nadia is the perfect person to inspire you to plan your big day without the stress! Call me a killjoy, but Nadia agrees with me: it is incredibly important to ascertain your budget from the get-go to avoid any unnecessary stress, debt or pressure. What can you realistically afford? You then need to give yourselves a buffer for any unexpected costs as well. Are you funding the wedding yourselves, or are your families chipping in? Will you be doing some Wedding DIY? If you’re going to be using a loan or credit card to pay for some of your wedding, ensure you keep your budget in mind. Nadia recommends that you create a budget sheet so you can keep tabs on spending. You could use a planning book like My Little Wedding Book, or there are lots of apps available.
2. Priorities & Values
Take the time to sit down with your fiancé and jot down the things that really matter to you both. What pops into your head when you think of your Wedding day? Is an awesome immersive experience that you picture, or tables spread with a scrumptious banquet? It’s key that you keep it simple – it’s really easy to get carried away, so once you’ve written a list, you then need to add what actions will achieve it: book the photo booth, call the perfect caterers. By planning in bite-sized chunks you’ll be ticking off your priorities, allowing time to manage the smaller jobs, and you won’t be overwhelmed.
When deciding on your wedding theme, Nadia suggests that you keep it personal and incorporate your passions as a couple – do you love the beach? Or have a shared favourite childhood book? The possibilities really are endless, but start at the beginning and keep it simple. Once you’ve made a decision, have a think about how you can bring your theme to life and make it your own.
