A rustic romance at Packington Moor

‘We knew the minute we walked in that we didn’t need to look at another venue.’ Isn’t that the dream of every bride and groom? For childhood sweethearts Sean and Lucy Beck, it was Packington Moor in Lichfield, Staffordshire, that provided that heart-in-mouth moment of joy.

Perfect for a ‘contemporary country’ wedding, Packington Moor is set in 700 acres of farmland and woodland, and offers a sophisticated twist to the oft-seen barn wedding. With its exposed brick and oak beams, romantic courtyard and reputation for excellent food, the venue is hugely popular with brides from the Staffordshire area – and beyond. ‘Despite living over 70 miles away we were happy to travel and make a weekend of our wedding staying in Lichfield with our family and friends,’ said Lucy, who discovered the venue at one of its wedding open days.

Lucy and Sean chose Page 7 Wedding Photography to capture their special day. Alex and Chris are highly recommended by Packington Moor who have worked with them on numerous weddings. Their photographs are a mix of natural and posed styles, and they always work closely with their clients to produce creative images that reflect their day.

For the prospective newlyweds it was important to find a venue that offered the reception and ceremony in one, to allow guests to relax and enjoy the day rather than dash from one location to another. Packington Moor also offers onsite accommodation for the bride and groom and the bridal party – another reason it shot up the couple’s shortlist.

For Lucy, the rustic style had always been the look she wanted. ‘I had my heart set on a barn wedding early on, and we instantly fell in love with Packington’s character and charm,’ she said. ‘A rustic wedding style really suits Packington Moor; it actually needs very little decoration and still looks wonderful,’ she continued. ‘We added some personal touches with some homemade elements and decorations, designing the gift table and seating plan ourselves.’

Lucy chose shabby chic birdcage centerpieces, which complemented her coral colour scheme. ‘Coral is my absolute favourite colour and really pops on the photographs,’ she beamed. ‘Sean gave me free reign to choose the colour scheme, flowers and decorations!’

The venue offers two different barns dependent on the size of your party. For celebrations of up to 120 people The Oat Barn is your best bet. This simple building nevertheless has a stunning vaulted ceiling that is dramatically lit, and features a minstrel’s gallery that overlooks proceedings – ideal for photographs or a string quartet.

The adjacent Malt Barn can cater for gatherings of up to 180; is light and spacious and features wrought iron chandeliers. Wedding breakfasts can be held here, as well as evening receptions – with a ‘starlit’ dance floor.

Drinks and canapes after your ceremony can be consumed on the lawns and courtyard outside, and there is even a secret garden for you to whisk your loved one away to sneak a few special moments alone, surrounded by romantic wisteria.

Food at Packington Moor is provided by the renowned Galloping Gourmet, and showcases much loved classics alongside new and innovative ideas (from mini fish and chips to braised chicory and figs with Stilton).

The Becks’ gorgeous photographs show just what a great venue Packington Moor is for all aspects of a wedding celebration. From a makeshift salon in the nearby cottages for hair and make-up preparations, to the intimate ceremony in the warm-toned brick Oat Barn, to the late night dancing in the Malt Barn, everyone looks happy, relaxed and joyful.

‘Everything about the day surpassed our expectations,’ said Lucy. ‘The staff at Packington Moor were an absolute dream to work with, both in the run-up to the wedding and on the day itself. Nothing was too much trouble, they went above and beyond to make sure we had a perfect day.’

And her favourite memory? ‘Seeing Sean’s face as I walked down the aisle. He was just beaming at me and all my nerves just melted away!’

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Beck on your new adventure as husband and wife! All the team at wish you the best.
