Styling your Welly Wedding

You’ll be donning your fave pretty wellies on your big day, ready for some classic hay bale jumping photography at your perfect venue, but now you’re stuck at how to style your wedding so it doesn’t look like a pigsty…

A Welly Wedding is definitely a statement about you as a couple – care-free, risk-taking, fun and probably not fussed about a bit of mud! Now you’ve found that wonderful Welly Wedding venue, and you’ve picked out your wedding wellies, you’re thinking about how to theme the rest of your day. We here at WeddingVenues.com know how to rock awesome wedding style, so take a look below for some gorgeous Welly Wedding inspo!

Welly Wedding Weekend

Go for a whole weekend of wedding shenanigans. Don’t let the celebrations stop after a mere day! Spread the love over a full weekend. Have you day at a venue like Doxford Barns where you can hire the entire place for 3 days!

Transport

You can’t possibly have a Welly Wedding without some sort of farmyard transportation. These tractors have never looked more romantic! Love this couple’s photos from Lower Damgate Farm.

This gorgeous trailer, decorated with bunting, is from Doxford Barns – the ideal transportation to take your guests on a leisurely drive from church to the reception!

But if tractors don’t do it for you, maybe a bright and colourful campervan would suit you style?! We love a deal at WedVen, and often a campervan can double up as entertainment as well as transport! This scarlet bus, Rory (known also as “The Little Red Bus“), is one of my favourites!

This photo of the bride with Rory was captured by Laura from Freeform Images on route to the stunning Bovey Castle, Devon.

Boho Dresses

You want a dress you can relax but feel like a goddess in…even with your wellies underneath! Two of my favourites include the Minna Estelle dress below…

And Jenny Packham’s Dolly is just divine and would look amazing with a pair of Hunters. A totally gorgeous juxtaposition of glitz and country!

Decor

For a Welly Wedding, the world is your oyster in terms of decorations and style. You could go for a country-style mix of bunting and gorgeous country flowers, accented with fairy lights and a pretty venue, but you might want to go all-out Welly-fied, so I found some brilliant ideas for all breadths of commitment to the theme!

I love these photos by Andrew Keher via Whimsical Wonderland Weddings where the couple decorated their magical tipi with mismatched everything and wellies galore! They lined the aisles and their venue with wellies as vases, with glorious garden florals of the season.

How about ribbons for some colourful styling? Bright, bold and fun, you can hang them from anywhere to make the venue come to life, like these ones we found in Brides Magazine.

Adding greenery – like trailing ivy – into your venue, perhaps around the marquee or on the furniture, is a really effective way of bringing the outdoors in! Love this boho look, especially paired with the hanging balloons.

When you have a touch of DIY, your welly wedding will look extra special and much more personal. This message board, with postal tags and snippets of lace and ivory ribbon is utterly gorgeous.

Vintage tea party

Rally round all the grannies in your village and raid their crockery cupboards…or alternatively, use a supplier like Strawberry Fayre to add that vintage feel to your Welly Wedding! Have a peek at this blog to help with vintage ideas.

Hair

The perfect do for your Welly Wedding totally depends on your personal style, but here are a couple of ideas to get your creative juices flowing…

Rock a Grecian plait up do like Dianna Agron, and you’ll be classically perfect all day long, but with a touch of country to match the wellies!

I love this understated flower crown that Vanessa is totally rocking on her big day at Kelham House, as featured on Boho Weddings. Resting on gently tousled locks, with chic make-up, and a subtly sexy dress (and your wellies cheekily hiding underneath!) you’ll be good to go!

Festival vibe Food

Festival fever has gripped the nation in recent years and the phenomenon has ushered a new wave of festival-inspired weddings for music-loving brides and grooms keen to sprinkle their celebration with uplifting music, welly boots, hay bales – and delicious food.

Festival food at welly wedding

Choose a catering company like The Round Kitchen and opt for woodfired pizzas topped with slow roasted pork tenderloin, wilted spinach and a Cornish blue cheese crème fraiche. Or how about some crispy sticky sesame chicken wings and thighs finished with a Jack Daniels infused barbecue sauce!?

Simple country classics might be perfect to serve as canapes at your Welly Wedding, like these beautiful scotch egg segments from River Cottage HQ.

However you choose to style your Welly Wedding, it’s bound to be pretty, cool and fun – words that I’d bet my bottom dollar your guests would use to describe you! Happy planning!
