The spectacularly beautiful 5 acre garden belonging to this Georgian house provides an ideal background for those all important wedding photographs - either on the old walled garden or beneath the large Cedar tree (planted for the wedding of the daughter of the Lord on Trafalgar Day).
We can provide parking for any amount of cars.
Roundway House is on the northern edge of Devizes and has been a significant part of the towns history for many centuries.
The large Manor House was built in 1773. It had 3 significant driveways up to the house where Lodge houses were built to control the traffic flow of carriages up to the main house. These properties are still standing today. They no longer control the traffic but are period houses in their own right. The house at the end of Quakers Walk still overlooks the carriage and cart way to the house. Cars cannot take this route - but carriages to the house are allowed with permission.
The hills overlooking Roundway House hold their own piece of history as the site of a major English Civil War battle in July 1643.
St. Johns and St James Churches both bear scars of the Siege of Devizes . The King's army lifted the Siege and defeated Waller's Parliamentary up near Oliver's castle. There were 600 killed. The hillside is named Roundway Down but is also known locally as Oliver’s Castle.
