About Pentre Mawr Country House wedding venue

We started doing weddings by accident when a friend asked us to have her wedding here and it snowballed from there. We’ve since looked at other venues to see what they offer. There are so many rules and regulations and we’re really trying to do something different here, so we have lots of options for you. First of all, there are no (well, nearly no) rules!

We really want you to have the wedding you want so we’re open to listening to your ideas and seeing what you would like. There are several places you can get married here; The Walled Garden, the newly renovated red brick barn, an African Safari Lodge, our Long Gallery or any of the reception rooms in the main house, it depends on what you fancy and on numbers, of course. We’ve just renovated a beautiful red bricked barn which is now licenced too. We charge a fully inclusive fee for all our services, so there are no extra charges to get married here, (though you have to pay the registrar wherever you get married). There is no need to hire in loos and on your wedding day you can bring your own wine and drinks if you want to and there is no corkage. We can offer reductions for both mid week, off peak and the shoulder months which are March and October. We also offer a reduction to all your wedding guests who are staying and your fee includes a room, lodge or suite of your choice. There are no hidden fees.

We supply a marquee which will comfortably seat 140 with plenty of space for extras in the evening (it can also be reduced for smaller weddings), it’s fully lined with lovely ivory linings, chandelier lighting and star lights for the evening, a wooden floor, fully carpeted, heating if required, tables and chairs. The red bricked barn with a mezzanine floor which the marquee butts up to has a black and white twinkly dance floor and a bar area for our wedding couple’s use. We also provide garden furniture, fire pits and outside candles for your evening ‘do’ so the outside looks as pretty as the inside.
We have beautiful places to have your wedding photos taken; we even have a falconer close by with barn owls who are happy to pose for photos. All the falconer’s details are on our perfect partners list. Several of our couples have had their pets here too……….we’ve even had the pleasure of a very beautiful horse at a ceremony in the Walled Garden. The rabbit wasn’t quite as interested but he was here in his cage, spent his whole time hiding away!!! So really the answer is, of course you can………….in fact if it’s legal and we can physically do it, the answer is always YES!

We have 12 rooms, well not quite rooms, there are 3 large rooms in the main house with huge Jacuzzi baths, 6 African Safari lodges each with it’s own hot tub and three cottage suites which also have their own hot tubs. It’s usual for your guests to pay for their own rooms and we reduce the rates considerably to encourage them to want to stay here. To date all our weddings, even the local ones have filled all of the accomodation no problem at all. It’s the hot tubs and the Jacuzzi’s that everyone likes the idea of. As well as that if you have friends with tents or caravans etc they would be welcome to stay free of charge, though we don’t have a shower block or anything like that but we do have a ‘gardeners loo’ for them to use. It just saves the need for designated drivers (poor dears!) and taxi’s. All we ask is that they take their rubbish away. We’ve also bought a huge hot tub for the pool terrace for everyones general use which is a great asset to get all your guests together and chilling the night before your wedding.

While Pentre on non wedding days is a child free zone so our couples can enjoy a romantic break, on your wedding weekend we want you to feel like it’s your home and all your family and friends are very welcome including the little people, so bring their toys, spread them around and relax. They’re just kids and will run riot and there’s loads of places for them to do that here.
We recommend what we call our Perfect Partners, they are people whose work we’ve seen and know but you don’t have to use them. We don’t charge corkage for wines, a great saving and whether you want an afternoon tea, a hog roast or a formal sit down we’re here to help and advise but not to interfere.

You can come to the marquee and barn on Thursday to decorate it as you wish and we’ll bring you and your friends lots of bucks fizz, coffee and cake. So on Friday afternoon when you and your guests arrive, you’re completely chilled and really your wedding weekend starts then. We’ll look after you all the way including bringing the bride and her party breakfast in the walled garden cottage or al fresco, if the weather’s good. We’ll also manage all the mini crisis that happens on wedding days like forgetting cufflinks etc, we’ve even sewn a very slim bride into her wedding dress when the zip broke.

We’ve noticed how deflated some of our couples seem when their wedding day is over on Sunday and their guests are leaving……so if you fancy staying on, on Sunday night we’ll provide you with a breakfast hamper, a bottle of fizz and some chocolates so you have an evening in peace with your loved one and just recover from your wonderful weekend. Weddings are exhausting!! So you’re not just having a wedding day you’re having a long wedding weekend!

We all want the perfect romantic wedding whatever our budget and we prefer not to discuss fees with you until we show you around and you see what we have to offer. The one thing we do say is that there are no hidden extras and we know our fees are very favourable when you compare the price of hiring other venues which are often only for the day or hiring your own marquee and all that goes with it. We take the headaches away. Here you can have your own country house for your special day and you can be as daft or as formal as you like. Give us a ring, any time and we’ll have a chat, we’d love you to come for a private show around, the kettle is always on so I do hope we hear from you.
